WELCOME/BIENVENIDOS
Hola. My name is Elma Lugo, Literacy and Multicultural Services Librarian at the Longwood Public Library. Implemented the library's active ESOL instruction program and literacy initiatives along with creating an Adult Learner and Foreign Language Collection.
I began my career in 2001 as a circulation clerk at the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community library, then in the Adult Reference Department until I attended LIU/Post for my Masters in Library Science. At MMSCL, I provided Readers' Advisory, was in charge of 4 book displays, created bibliographies and bookmarks, along with weeding and ordering books for the Urban Fiction and Spanish Collections.
I was Chair of the Multicultural Outreach Services and Information Committee (MOSAIC) from 2011-2015.
When dealing with patrons of any age, I try to keep in mind that they just want to be seen, acknowledged and validated. My philosophy is simple: work hard and have a positive attitude. My motto is: "Life is a journey....My road has endless possibilities".
